<aside> 💡 I used this documentation to keep Mendota Rowing Club in the loop and to help myself keep track of thoughts, ideas and goals. I am grateful to MRC for their help getting this video done and the creative freedom they gave me.

About Mendota Rowing Club

Mendota Rowing Club was founded in 1975 by a small group of University of Wisconsin alumni with the primary purpose of fostering national and international rowing competition by developing amateur rowers. The club has since evolved into a non-profit, multifaceted organization. It welcomes and encourages men and women of all ages and levels of experience who wish to become involved in the sport of rowing.

“We are Mendota”

This 2-3 minute video will cover all aspects of the club and serve as an introduction to potential members. Through interviews and visuals, it will show the community and values of MRC (fun, competitive, teamwork, rowing for all, etc.) It will also talk about the resources MRC has such as Ergs, weight room, boats, great coaches, etc.

The video will be driven by interviews with a cotch as well as a rower. They will be asked questions about the club, the opportunities it provides, and what makes it great. There will be b-roll on top of the interviews showing what they are talking about (it will show the person being interviewed too, but the b-roll will provide context as too what they're talking about and make it more interesting.)

Feedback is more than welcome right now, and I will also share rough edits of the video for feedback as I work.

Video opens with exterior shot of the club. Shots of people getting ready to row (arriving at the boathouse, opening bay doors, getting boats out) with voice over from the coach talking about the club. Interview shots of cut in.

Voiceover / interview continues talking about the club and what it offers (learn to row, masters, juniors, equipment, etc.) with appropriate B-roll.

Rower voiceover / interview talks about why these programs are so great and the atmosphere and community of the club. Again, supported by b-roll.

At some point, the background music will ramp up and the voiceover will stop for a bit. Allowing for an epic/hype rowing and workout sequence to show how tough our rowers can be. (Not sure when in the video I want this to happen, and I don’t think it would be a super long part of the video, but it would happen in a way that feels natural.)
